Privacy policy
Last updated November 7, 2026
Ask Nonnie is a family recipe app run by AskNonnie LLC ("we"). This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it. Questions: privacy@asknonnie.com.
The short version
- Your recipes, photos and recordings are yours. Only the people you share them with can see them.
- We never sell your information, and we never show ads based on your personal information.
- You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, and a profile photo if you add one. If you sign in with Apple or Google, they send us your name and email.
- What you add: recipes, cooking steps, notes, photos, videos, voice recordings, comments, messages, gatherings, meal plans, pantry items and shopping lists.
- Your groups: which families and friend circles you belong to. If you invite someone by email, we use that address only to send the invite.
- Your device: phone type, app version, crash reports, and a notification token so we can send the alerts you turn on.
- Purchases: if you subscribe, Apple or Google handles the payment. We get a confirmation that you subscribed. We never see your card number.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your recipes, share them with your groups, and keep them in sync across your devices.
- To send sign-in codes, invites and the notifications you choose.
- To run the Ask Nonnie helper features you use (see below).
- To keep accounts safe, fix problems, and make the app better.
Sponsored recipes
Some recipes in the app may be sponsored by food brands. Sponsored recipes are always labeled. Brands never receive your personal information, and we never use your personal information to choose what you see.
Who can see your things
Recipes you keep to yourself stay private. Recipes you share are visible to the group you share them with. When you first share a recipe, you choose whether people in that group may pass it on. If you send a view-only link, anyone who has that link can view that one recipe.
Ask Nonnie helper features
When you scan a recipe card, ask a cooking question, or turn a recording into text, the content you send is processed by our AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) to produce the answer. Under their business terms, they do not use this content to train their models. If you don't use these features, nothing is sent to them.

Children
People under 13 can't create their own Ask Nonnie account. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account in Settings. We remove your account and everything in it within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days. If you'd like a recipe to stay in your family's cookbook, hand it to a family member before you delete your account.
Your choices
You can see, change, download or delete your information at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have other privacy rights. Write to privacy@asknonnie.com and we'll help, whatever state you live in.
Keeping it safe
Information travels encrypted and is stored with well-known providers. No system is perfect, so please use a sign-in method you keep private.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
